A Trip to Pérez Art Museum Miami
My last trip to Miami was almost a decade ago as a broke college student so my experience then was uncoincidentally very different than my most recent trip in the summer of 2024.
This time, when I was searching for things to do, Pérez Art Museum Miami repeatedly came up, and I must say that I was primarily stunned by the actual building that I didn’t necessarily need to know much about the collection to be convinced to go. It cost $220 million dollars to build, and I think that is abundantly clear when you arrive.
Something I never really considered about seeing art across the country is how much culture and geographic location can influence the collection of work shown at a museum. At this museum, I was introduced to the work of several Latinx artists, a group whom I’ve not had the privilege of seeing much in museums before now.
When it comes to the kind of art I like to see, I lean more toward contemporary art, especially knowing I’ll have the opportunity to be introduced to artists of color that often create inspired by their culture and background.
I thought I would share some of my general favorites to give you an idea of what you might see on a trip to Pérez Art Museum Miami.
